Today's water professionals increasingly find a need to navigate complex, complicated issues and problems that require working with others to solve. This course offers the basic facilitation skills needed to plan for and work with others more effectively, both at the project level and in working with other project stakeholders. One segment of the class will also offer tips for determining when professional facilitation skills are needed and how to be an informed consumer.

Who Should Attend
This course is designed for engineers, geologists, scientists, and other water professionals who are project managers or find themselves responsible for public outreach tasks. It is suitable for all career levels but particularly useful for those that find their duties increasingly involve working with groups of people.
About the Instructor
This course will be conducted by Lisa Beutler, Executive Facilitator/Principal Coordinator with MWH, now part of Stantec. With well over 30 years of experience, Ms. Beutler is one of the premier water facilitators in the country. She has supported outreach for the California Water Plan for over 15 years, and has been the executive facilitator for multiple flood management, and water quality and supply efforts. She currently serves as an executive facilitator for implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, where she oversees facilitation activities in 16 subbasins. Previously with the Center for Collaborative Policy at California State University Sacramento, she is also a well-regarded instructor and a regular guest lecturer for courses at Sacramento State and UC Davis. Her work has been featured in numerous professional publications and several books, the most recent one published by the American Planning Association and titled: Planning in the Face of Conflict, (2013).
